Planning for months and hoping on the plane from corners of the world…reaching Mauritius was just as thrilling as one could imagine. After we landed, and immigration (Mauritius offers Visa on Arrival), hire a cab from the airport…and were on the way to the best experience of our lives…
The impeccable roads of this petite island nation are a marvel of planning and execution. Trust me, the surrounding splendor – the vast sea, towering mountains, lush greenery – it was a feast for the eyes!
A scenic drive and we arrived at our hotel: InterContinental Mauritius Resort Balaclava Fort – Oh my stars! The view from the lobby was simply out-of-this-world perfect! And our rooms…an uninterrupted view…door to garden to pool and finally the majestic Indian Ocean. Mr. India ka scene yaad aa gaya.. 🙂 people from our era will be able to relate.
The highlight of our trip came unexpectedly, before we checked in…spotted a Mini Cooper available for rent at the hotel concierge! True serendipity – Girls on a trip from different corners of the globe, a Luxury hotel, and a convertible car. It instantly reminded us of the movie “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara“ and we knew right then that we had to book it…And guess what? We did!!! Scene poora filmy hain ab to…
Day 2 : Sorted- Driving in Mini Cooper to Chamarel waterfall & Le Morne Brabant – the stunning southwestern tip of Mauritius, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
Trust me, it’s the best decision we made. The destination was absolutely captivating, but oh boy…the drive there? It was an adventure all its own!
A 2.5-hour drive with breathtaking views of roads and ocean side by side – like I said …scene poora filmy hain!
And yes, we made sure to stop at every picturesque spot for photo ops (because that’s what girls gonna do).
Day 3: Yacht – We had booked a full-day Dolphin Catamaran Cruise and the experience was simply phenomenal!! The entire yacht was for 15 people (there were a few newlywed couples as well) but that didn’t bother us…not sure about them though 🙂
Calmness around for hours and hours…everywhere we looked, there was blue – the sky merging with the ocean in an endless expanse. It felt like we were in two places at once yet somehow still in one place…you know what I mean… breathtaking.
The word “breathtaking” doesn’t even begin to cover it. We saw dolphins, flying fish, and stars while swimming in the middle of the ocean. I’m not sure if my words are doing justice to what I felt… but let’s just say it left me speechless.
Day 4: After a super relaxing day at the ocean… we had to & had to go for a super adventure …early morning at 6 … we geared up, took a cab, and landed at SkyDiving Mauritius… Uff and don’t even try to guess the thrill we were into…
Seeing 2 people jumping ahead of us and watching from the base… we were like …ok…this would be easy… but …who knew what was in store for us… After a small (15 mins) training, we suited up and wore our gear and bus phir kya…tyar the hum …to jump… for our lifetime experience…
Can’t even express the thrill, the feeling … it was as if I had conquered the world … it was so good… why didn’t I do this earlier… must do & everyone should experience this once in a lifetime…
And in the evening, it was Scoba time… jumped on a boat that took us to the center of the ocean and we splashed in the water…to experience the wonders that lie within the vast ocean.
Ek hi din mein pura aasman or sumndar mahsoon karna.. apne app mein ek sakoon tha!
As I write this, I guess some would feel, that we had time like the movie ZNMD. And, I would agree, it was that and much more … more authentic and closer to heart. The endless conversations, laughter, and gossip in the southern hemisphere … once-in-a-lifetime experience.
